Parc de la Ciutadella

Built on the ruins of a demolished citadel for the 1888 World's Fair, this remains the park that Barcelonans actually use.

The cascade and lake

A monumental fountain that a student-aged Gaudí had a hand in, fronting a lake where rowing boats have been hired for well over a century.

The zoo

One of Europe's most visited zoos occupies the park's southeastern corner, and is known above all for its gorilla breeding programme.

Sundays in the park

Sardana dancers by the bandstand, drum circles, picnics on every flat metre of grass; turn up empty-handed and you will still be fed by the atmosphere.
